Project Overview
In 2021, DCMS conducted a detailed 3D laser scan of three metro stations within the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) system. The survey included ticketing halls, entrances, platforms, stairwells, and structural elements, capturing the existing conditions with millimeter precision. This data helped the TTC make informed decisions for infrastructure assessments, upgrades, and long-term renovation planning.
Deliverables
High-Density LiDAR Point Cloud Data: Capturing spatial accuracy for structural planning
Georeferenced Orthophotos : Providing mapped site references
Virtual Matterport Walkthrough : Supporting remote stakeholder access
LiDAR Scan Deliverables : Providing accurate spatial data for future mining design and analysis

Our Role & Technology
DCMS used terrestrial LiDAR to scan underground stations, generating point clouds to support infrastructure analysis, documentation, and future upgrades. Tools Used:
Matterport Pro3 for 3D scanning.
Point cloud data processing,
AutoCADand 3D modeling software.
Key Challenges & Solutions
High-traffic environments: Scanning was performed with minimal interference to ongoing metro operations
Complex underground geometry: LiDAR captured intricate layouts for easier future modifications.
Remote planning needs: A Matterport digital twin enabled remote collaboration and review.
