Project Overview
Located in downtown Miami near the historic Flagler Street corridor, this project involved comprehensive structural documentation of a two-level commercial building with a total area of 6,591 sq ft using advanced Leica BLK2GO laser scanning technology. The scope focused on capturing the complete steel framework with sub-millimetric precision to support engineering assessments and renovation planning. Our portable scanning approach enabled complete documentation without disrupting building operations

Our Role & Technology
DCMS deployed Leica BLK2GO handheld scanners to capture the full steel framework with sub-millimetric precision. The SLAM workflow enabled continuous scanning at 420,000 pts/sec, eliminating survey control setups and achieving ±4mm accuracy throughout.
Converted over 15 million scan points into Revit geometry using advanced point cloud processing and automated recognition of structural elements.
Created LOD 300 parametric families with precise dimensions extracted from BLK2GO datasets.
Captured complex roof trusses with sloped and angled members using SLAM technology, enabling unrestricted documentation in tight steel-framed spaces.
Key Challenges & Solutions
Real-time conflict resolution using BLK2GO’s live preview enabled instant verification and alignment of plan and section geometries during field capture.
Complex trusses and angled connections were captured with BLK2GO’s 360° view and handheld mobility, allowing full access to challenging geometries.
LOD 300 accuracy was achieved by verifying steel profiles against high-density point clouds, ensuring ±4 mm precision.
