Project Overview
As part of an ongoing collaboration with a high-end kitchen manufacturer based in Florence, DCMS conducted a technical as-built survey of a luxury residential kitchen in the Astor Street District of Chicago. This was part of a pre-installation inspection process to support MEP coordination before furniture installation. With over 25 kitchens scanned in this partnership, the goal is to ensure layout precision and eliminate site issues. The scanned area was approximately 400 sq ft and focused on visibly verifiable MEP conditions.

Our Role & Technology
DCMS conducted a high-precision laser scan and developed CAD documentation specifically tailored for ornamental interior design and millwork fabrication.
Measured and modeled only physically visible MEP outlets, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC
Generated vertical sections and elevations to define outlet height and alignment
Delivered CAD-based documents for coordination with furniture and millwork teams
Key Challenges & Solutions
MEP Accuracy: Each outlet was dimensioned to its axis based on physical verification during the scan
Scope Limitation: As-builts reflected only what could be confirmed on-site, reducing guesswork and ensuring confidence in layout
Workflow Efficiency: Final model enabled seamless planning and reduced installation delays for the kitchen manufacturer
